Orb Weaver Spider

What Halloween display would be complete without a few creepy Spiders? Here’s a nice little photo to help inspire those Do-It-Yourselfers looking to add a creepy spider to your list of prop projects.

This is a variety of the Orb Weaver spider. My wife and I came upon this beauty while on an early morning hike in the Adirondack Mountains with our 3 children. I have to credit the discovery to my wife, who heroically overcame her blinding fear of spiders to bring this to my attention. For those of you who are not familiar, I also enjoy photographing wildlife (amongst other things) in my spare time.

The Orb Weaver is a intimidating looking, but often harmless spider. They are the ones responsible for those beautifully crafted, nearly perfect spiderwebs. Most varieties of the Orb Weaver construct a new web each day, tearing down and consuming the previous day’s web along with their catch.
